When you’re going through a separation or divorce, self-care shouldn’t just be something you squeeze in at the end of the day if you have five minutes before you fall into bed. It’s imperative that you’re dedicating regular time to taking care of yourself so that you can continue to show up through this incredibly taxing emotional journey. What self-care practice will you commit to this week? Here’s nine of our favourite ideas:
Hydration: Sorry to break it to you, but you can’t survive on coffee alone! Add some water into your routine. (Maybe you need a fun new water bottle to motivate you?)
Rest: Explore different bedtime routines to ensure you’re getting adequate ZZZ’s! Consider a hot shower or bath before bed, or doing a guided meditation.
Movement: Whether it’s walking, running, pilates, or yoga, find an activity that you enjoy that also gets your body moving.
Journalling: Grab a pen and just let the words flow. Don’t judge — just write. Release those thoughts!
Nourish: Your body needs fuel. Stock your fridge and pantry with easy and nutritious snacks.
Dance: Put on your fave tunes and dance in your kitchen, bathroom, or car!
Scents: Light a candle, spritz the room, or roll on some essential oils — whatever works to give you a sense of zen.
Cozy: Try to channel that cozy, hygge feeling with soft blankets, a fireplace or candles, and a hot cup of tea.
Laugh: Put on a funny movie, hang out with your besties, or watch some silly videos online — anything that makes you smile
Remember, self-care is the foundation for getting through your divorce with strength.
